Anjali's Class Settlement

Match what your students paid with the classes they actually attended, and take back any correction you make with one tap.

Who this is for

Anjali teaches yoga in a room above a medical shop in Mysuru. Three batches, about forty students, some on a monthly fee and some on twelve-class packs. On the first of the month, Mrs Rao stops at the door after the 7.30 batch and asks why she is paying in full when she missed a week for her daughter's wedding. Anjali needs the answer on the phone in hand, not in a register at home.

How the job is done today

A paper register sits by the door and students tick their own names, when they remember. Payments arrive as UPI alerts on PhonePe, as screenshots in the studio WhatsApp group, and sometimes as cash folded into Anjali's hand after class. On Sunday evenings Anjali sits with the register, the phone and a pen, matching the two, crossing out and rewriting. A spreadsheet was tried once. A row got deleted by mistake, nobody could say what had been in it, and Anjali went back to the pen.

The screens, in order

1. This month — Shows which students have paid and attended in agreement, and puts the ones that do not match at the top so Anjali knows who to look at first.
2. One student — Lays a student's payments beside the classes they came to, so Anjali can see what is owed or left over and settle it in front of them.
3. Mark the batch — Lets Anjali tick who came to a batch in the few minutes after class, from a list of that batch's names.
4. Add a payment — Records money received, whether by UPI or cash, and what it was meant to cover.
5. What changed — Lists every correction ever made, in plain words, so any one of them can be taken back and nothing is ever lost.

What it keeps track of

• Students — name, phone number, which batch, monthly fee or class pack, how many classes the pack holds
• Attendance — who, which batch, which day, ticked by the student or added later by Anjali
• Payments — who paid, how much in rupees, which day, UPI or cash, which month or pack it covers
• Corrections — what was changed, what it said before, what it says now, when, and whether it has been taken back

The one decision that matters

When Anjali fixes something, say a class wrongly ticked or a payment put against the wrong month, the app can either change the record in place or keep the original and lay the correction on top. Changing in place is simpler to build and the screens look tidier. Laying corrections on top is the right choice here. The whole reason Anjali left the spreadsheet was a mistake that could not be seen or reversed. If nothing is ever truly erased, then taking back a correction simply switches it off, the old figure reappears, and Anjali can try things without fear. A student asking about last month can also be shown exactly what was changed and why.

What to leave out of the first version

No WhatsApp reminders to students, no collecting fees inside the app, no second teacher logging in, no monthly reports. Each of these adds something that can go wrong on someone else's phone or in someone else's name, and the first job is to make Anjali trust the numbers. Once the Sunday evening with the register has gone away for a couple of months, reminders are the natural next thing to add.

How you would know it worked

When a student asks how many classes are left on their pack, Anjali answers from the phone at the door within a minute, and the paper register has stopped coming out on Sunday evenings.

I run a small yoga studio in Mysuru with three batches and about forty students. Some pay a monthly fee and some buy packs of twelve classes, mostly by UPI and sometimes cash. I need a phone app where I can tick who came to each batch, note down payments, and see for each student whether what they paid matches the classes they actually attended, with anyone who does not match shown first. When I open a student I want their payments and classes side by side so I can tell them what they owe or have left. I am nervous about breaking things, so please never delete or overwrite anything. Every correction I make should be kept in a list in plain words, and I should be able to take any of them back with one tap and see the old figure return. Keep it simple, only I will use it.
