Meera's Groom Tick Board

Groomers tick off each task as they finish it, and the board compares that against what the owner actually booked and paid for.

A tool for your team · a pet grooming service · reconciling two records that disagree

Groomers tick off each task as they finish it, and the board compares that against what the owner actually booked and paid for.

Who this is for

Meera Nadkarni runs a dog grooming room behind a vet clinic in Aundh, Pune. Two groomers, one bather, and her at the counter. Eight dogs on a weekday, eighteen on a Saturday. The moment that matters is Saturday, half past eleven, when four dogs are on four tables, a Labrador is shaking water off, and an owner walks in early asking whether the nail trim she paid two hundred rupees for got done.

How the job is done today

Bookings go into a hardbound diary at the counter. Meera writes the dog's name, the owner's phone number and the services in short form. Then she shouts the job across the room, or types it into the shop WhatsApp group, where it slides up past photos and out of view within the hour. The groomers have wet hands and never open the phone. At pickup Meera asks whether the nails were done, and the groomer is already elbow-deep in the next dog and says yes because he thinks he did. Twice a month an owner rings the next day about a de-tick bath that never happened, and Meera refunds four hundred rupees rather than argue.

The screens, in order

  1. Morning list — Meera puts in the day's dogs with their owner, their time slot and the exact services paid for, so the room knows what is coming before the first dog arrives.
  2. The board — Shows every dog in the room right now as a large card, so anyone can see at a glance which dogs are still open and which are finished.
  3. Dog card — The groomer opens the dog on the table and ticks each grooming task off as it is genuinely finished, one big box at a time.
  4. Pickup check — Puts what was paid for next to what was ticked, and marks anything missing or anything extra the room did for free, so Meera settles it at the counter in ten seconds.
  5. Day close — Lists the dogs where the two records did not match, so Meera can see by Sunday evening whether it is the same task and the same groomer every time.

What it keeps track of

  • Bookings — dog's name, breed, owner's name and phone, what time, which services they paid for, how much
  • Tick sheet — which dog, which task, done or not done, who ticked it, at what time
  • Services — name of the task, the price, how long it usually takes
  • Staff — name, short code for the board, working today or not

The one decision that matters

Should the groomer's dog card arrive with the booked services already ticked, or with every box empty? Pre-ticking is faster and the groomers will ask for it, because on a Saturday they want to confirm a whole dog in one tap. But a pre-ticked box records an intention, not a fact, and then the pickup check is comparing the booking against itself and can never disagree with anything. Leave every box empty. The booked services can sit beside the boxes in grey so the groomer knows what to do, but the tick has to be made by a person who has just done the thing. The whole point of the board is that the two records are allowed to differ.

What to leave out of the first version

Leave out the owner entirely. No login for them, no message when their dog is done, no photos of the finished cut. All of that is a second business. The disagreement this fixes happens at the counter with both people standing there, and it is settled by turning a screen around. Also leave out taking money. Meera already has a UPI sticker and a card machine, and the board does not need to know.

How you would know it worked

A Saturday goes by where Meera turns the screen around at pickup twice, knocks two hundred rupees off both bills before the owner has to ask, and gets no phone call on Sunday about a bath that never happened.

Build it

Paste this in and let it run.

I run a dog grooming room in Aundh with two groomers and a bather. I want a website we open on our phones where every morning I put in the day's dogs with the owner's name and phone, the time, and exactly which services they have paid for. When a dog is on the table the groomer opens that dog and ticks each task off as he finishes it, and the boxes must start empty, not already ticked, even though the paid services are shown beside them. At pickup I want one screen that puts what was paid for next to what was actually ticked and clearly marks anything missing and anything extra we did for free. Make the boxes big and the taps few because their hands are wet. On Saturday between eleven and twelve we have four dogs going at once, so it has to hold up then or it is no use to me.

Paste that request into the box and it gets built. You can change your mind afterwards — that is the normal way to use it.
