Who it's for

You shoot families, newborns and the occasional wedding. Mostly it is just you, with a second shooter you call in for the big days. Enquiries come through Instagram, Facebook and text. The problem bites on a Tuesday night while you are editing and three people all ask whether Saturday morning is free, and you cannot remember which of them you already promised it to.

The problem today

Right now it is messages back and forth. Someone asks about a mini session, I offer two times, they take a day to get back to me, and by then I have given one of those times away. I write it in the notebook and in the calendar on my phone, and some weeks only in one of them. Through school photo season I answer the same questions about where to meet and what to wear over and over. And people forget. I have driven out to a park with the lights and the backdrop and sat there while nobody turned up, and that Saturday morning is gone for good.

What the app does, screen by screen

  1. Book a session (customer) — Lets a customer choose the kind of shoot, see only the times you are genuinely free and book one with their name, mobile and email.
  2. Deposit and confirmation (customer) — Takes the deposit that holds the time, then shows the date, where to meet and what to bring, with a WhatsApp button to message you.
  3. My bookings (customer) — Gives the customer one place to check their session, ask to move it or cancel, so that does not land in your messages.
  4. Calendar (owner and staff) — Shows the day and the week on your phone so you can see at a glance what is booked before you promise anyone anything.
  5. Booking details (owner and staff) — Lets you confirm, reschedule, add notes about the family and mark the shoot as done and delivered.
  6. Availability and session types (owner) — Where you set your shooting hours, days off, how long each session runs, the travel gap between them and the deposit.
  7. Reminders (owner) — Lets you set the wording and when reminders go out, and shows which ones have been sent.

Who uses it and what it keeps track of

  • Customers — Name, mobile, email, how they found you, every session they have booked and your notes about them. You and your second shooter see the list. A customer only ever sees their own.
  • Bookings — Date and time, kind of shoot, where to meet, the price agreed, whether the deposit is paid, and whether it is requested, confirmed, shot or delivered. Your second shooter sees the schedule without the money.
  • Session types — Name of the shoot, how long it runs, the deposit that holds it, and the notes the customer gets about what to wear and where to park. Only you change these.
  • Availability — Your hours for each day, days off, school holidays you are away, and the gap you need between shoots for travel and packing. Only you see it; customers just see free times.
  • Reminders sent — Which booking it belonged to, when it went out and whether it was a text or an email. Only you see this.

What it changes for the business

You stop losing Saturdays to double bookings, because the times on offer are the only times you are free. Fewer people forget, because the reminder goes out without you remembering to send it. The deposit means a held morning has something behind it, and the ones who were never going to turn up fall away before you load the car. Your evenings stop going on the same five questions in messages, and every family you have ever shot sits in one list you can go back to when the season comes around again.

The one decision that matters

Deposit or no deposit at the time of booking. Without one, booking is quicker and you will take more of them, but a free hold is easy to forget and you carry the cost of the empty morning. With one, a few people drop off at the payment screen. Take the deposit. Keep it small, credit it against the final price, and say plainly on the booking screen that it holds the time. The people who pay it turn up, and that is worth more than the enquiries you lose. Make it refundable if they move the shoot with a few days notice, so you look reasonable rather than rigid.

What to build first, and what can wait

Build the booking screen with real availability, the deposit, your calendar, the confirmation and two reminders. That alone stops the double bookings and the empty mornings. Leave the rest for later: delivering galleries, invoicing the balance, gift vouchers, a sign-in for your second shooter, and showing your shoots alongside the calendar you already use. None of those are the reason you are losing Saturdays.

How BooDoo builds it

You describe it the way you would explain it to a mate, and BooDoo builds it. It builds the database and the sign-in behind it, so you see the whole calendar and the money, a second shooter sees only the schedule, and a customer sees only their own booking. The same request gives a website on its own live address, with your own domain if you want one, and an Android app you can publish to Google Play under your account. Deposits, text reminders and a WhatsApp button come from ready integrations. Change the reminder wording or add a session type later by describing the change. If you would rather not build it yourself, BooDoo Launch builds it for you.

How you'll know it works

Your weekends fill up without you answering a single message about what times are free, and you stop driving to a shoot where nobody turns up.

Build it

Paste this in and it gets built.

I am a photographer and I want an app and a website where customers book me themselves. They pick the kind of shoot, like a family session, a newborn or a mini session, see only the times I am actually free and book with their name, mobile and email. I want a small deposit paid at booking so they turn up, with the rest paid later. Give me a calendar on my phone where I see the day and the week, confirm or move a booking, block out my days off and leave a gap between shoots for travel. Send the customer a confirmation with where to meet and what to wear, then a text reminder a few days before and again on the morning. Put a WhatsApp button there so they can message me. Only I see the money. My second shooter signs in and sees the schedule.

Paste that request and it gets built, with a real database, sign-in and a phone app. You can change anything afterwards.
